Letting Fireworks Go!!

It’s been a busy month for the JetFuel Coffee/ Norco Bicycles Team from local stuff, to BC SuperWeek, and now out in Quebec City for the Tour de Quebec. Today’s first stage was a 128km circuit race. The course: I wouldn’t have said it was hilly nor flat but more rolling. What was the big challenge about today was going to be the wind going through wide open farmer’s fields and racing along the St. Lawrence river. The team was ready to race.

Yuri, Anton, and I were ready for a breakaway to go all day being in multiple moves and the lead splits. Usually having at least two of us represented in most moves but none of them lasting any longer than 20km periods. A large split of ~20guys got away on the third lap with only Anton in it. This started causing absolute havoc in the main field. The field was single file in the gutter with splits happening everywhere. This is where we lost Freeland, in a split after he had spent the whole first lap chasing back on after a mechanical. Lucky enough to a point this large split had come back before the start of the next lap. But the race came down to what was left of a field sprint. The three of us left did our best in the sprint but we were all pretty cooked as we spent so much time attacking. There’s three more stages to let more fireworks off!!!

Stage 1/ GC
Anton- 11th/ 12th
Yuri- 21st/ 21st
Travis- 25th/28th/12th in U23
Chris- 71st/ 67th
