Ryan tells us about the last stage of the San Dimas Stage Race

The final stage of the San Dimas stage race was a 90min, 6 corner crit. Only Travis, Anton and myself lined up. Kevin did not make the small 5% time cut the day before after giving me a wheel when I flatted late in the race. Robert had a crash that resulted in a mechanical that put him out and Yuri had some GI issues zapping his legs.

The race was fast throughout and no breaks got more then a handful of seconds. Travis and I tried our hands jumping into a few moves while Anton was feeling the effects of his crash and mainly survived and preserved his top 20 on GC. As the laps wound down I was well positioned and decided on going for a bit of a hail mary heading into the last lap. I figured I could run top 10 in the sprint but that’s not what we’re here for so I launched around the Jelly Belly train and went for it. I ended up being caught on the small uphill drag of the course and then suffered like crazy to get back in the wheels to try and not lose any time.

Overall it was a solid 3 days of racing for the team. Starting Wednesday is the US staple Redlands Classic which has been expanded to 5 days this year. The field will be a bit deeper and the racing a bit tougher but I think we’re up for it. Look for more reports from the team.
