Double W Weekend!!

This whole weekend has been better than ever. I’ve felt like a true superstar, it’s been amazing. Lets go back to where my whole weekend starts off on Friday night I spent most of the night in Toronto for a concert (Macklemore) with the girlfriend which was super cool specially it being my first concert. But let’s talk bike racing.

Saturday was the Coborug Crit which I was really excited to do cause it was a local race and a lot of home town people were going to be there. With the Crit just being an hour plus 5 laps I decided to ride from Peterborough down to the race, a nice solid 60km warm up. Now standing at the start line I started looking around at who was here, I actually ended up getting nerves cause big names like Mark Walters, Aaron Fillion, Anthony Walsh had showed up making this not so easy. In the first few lap a group of four riders had just ridden off the front and established a gap of 40seconds pretty fast. The field had looked to Fillion, myself and a couple others to bring it back. At this moment it reminded me how much it sucks racing without a team. Half way into the race I was able to get off the front with one other guy and bridge across the gap to the break. Now being in this situation a few times throughout the season I’ve always played a winning breakaway out too defensively so instead I went on the offensive this time splitting the group in half each time until it was Walsh and myself in a two man lead with one lap. I knew you had to be the first guy into the final corner and then it’s just hang on to it. That’s what I did with a enough of a gap to put my hands in the air.

Sunday I spent the day at WONDERLAND! Yes an 18 year old spends his day recovering and preparing for the next days race at Wonderland.
Monday Tour of Terra Cotta: what was about to happen today was something I was not expecting. From about 3-4km in I was already on the attack I was able to get away with one Stevens guy for a lap until Aaron Fillion and Matteo bridged across. At this point I thought it was a solid breakaway to be in. A few km later Yuri bridged across solo and we had a really solid breakaway. At this time we still had 90km to go to the finish and had never thought that this was going to be a winning breakaway. Rolling this breakaway  at 1:30min gap for most of the race. Yuri and I were lucky that Matteo had a flat with one lap to go and  all we had to do was keep attacking the other guys to tire them out. Yuri doing all of the attacking with half a lap left I got a free ride sitting on the back and following the guys as they chased him down which played out perfect. Fillion started his sprint really early just inside the 400meters, I sat behind him and just waited until about 100meters to go to jump around him and put the arms up in VICTORY!

With one more race on Tuesday night at the final Lachine I’m looking forward to try and make it a hat trick in a span of four days. But if this race comes down to a field sprint look for our fast finisher Jeff Schiller, coming out of our lead-out train for the Victory salut!
